Injection Grouting India
Scroll
Introduction
To understand Injection Grouting, it’s important to first understand what is Grout. It is a flowable mortar or paste that fills crevices and has negligible shrinkage. It fills the voids completely and remains stable without cracking or crumbling.
There are different types of grouts such as cement grout, polymer-cement slurry, epoxy, urethane and high-molecular-weight methacrylate (HMWM). Injection Grouting is a process of filling the cracks, open joints, voids, or honeycombs in concrete or masonry structural members. Injection is done under pressure with a material that cures in the cracks / voids & strengthen the structure to prevent internal water movement. Cementitious grouting is a process in which a fluid cementitious grout is pumped under pressure to fill such forms, voids & cracks and can be used in several settings including infrastructure applications like bridges, marine applications, industrial applications, dams etc.
The grouted mass has an increased strength, stiffness and reduced permeability. For massive structures, the procedure consists of drilling a series of holes, 20 to 100-mm diameter, at a spacing of 1.5 m along the crack. In a recently developed method, a bag is wrapped all along the member and the liquid adhesive is introduced at the bottom and is sucked by a vacuum pump at the top, or epoxy is injected in the cracks from one side and pulled from the other side. This treatment gives an easy spread for the grouting.
Problem / What is at stake?
Every structure is different and so is the life of it. Over time, cracks are formed depending on its load bearing capacity or its maintenance. These cracks may or may not visibly show the total extent of damage or problems of greater magnitude. They may represent critical structural distress, lack of durability or they might influence the appearance only. The importance of cracks is dependent on the nature of cracking and type of structure.
The principal causes of cracks in any structure can be due to multiple reasons like permeability of concrete, thermal movement, creep movement, corrosion of reinforcement, moisture movement, poor construction practices, improper structural design and specifications, poor maintenance, movement due to chemical reactions etc.
The grout materials are selected for particular type of concrete or masonry repair work based on the compatibility of the grout with the original material. If proper grouting material is not selected, the desired objectives of the grouting process would not be achieved. Good enough expertise is required to be able to prolong the life of such structures using this grouting technique.
Our Expertise / How SSPIPL can help you?
At SSPIPL, we understand the unique requirement of each project based on the location, age of the structure, requirement of strengthening due to any deterioration and provide tailor made solutions to suit the needs after technical assessment of the structure.
Few of the procedures for Grouting are as follows:
- 1. Drill the ports
- 2. Seal the cracks between ports
- 3. Cleaning ports and cracks with scrubber
- 4. Grouting process
An indication of success of filling up the cracks is that the pressure does not drop. In case of Epoxy injections, it requires a high degree of skill for an acceptable application of the technique. The atmospheric temperature at the repair site is also an important consideration.
SSPIPL is a leading specialist contractor working on a national level & has successfully completed major projects in various cities of India like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Raipur, Gandhinagar, Lucknow, Patna, Ranchi, Gangtok, Dehradun, Chandigarh, Shimla & Srinagar.
